Can meditation improve health

Can meditation improve health?

Practicing mindfulness and meditation can help you control stress and high blood pressure, sleep better, feel more balanced and connected, and even reduce your risk of heart disease.

Meditation and mindfulness are practices—often using breathing, silent contemplation, or sustained focus on something, such as an image, phrase, or sound—that help you release stress and feel more calm and peaceful.

Think of it as a mini vacation from the stresses of life! Stress is your body's natural alarm system. It releases a hormone called adrenaline that helps you breathe faster, increasing your heart rate and blood pressure. It motivates us to take action, which can be a good thing when we face real danger or need to take action.

But this “fight or flight” response can harm your body when it lasts too long or happens frequently. Mindfulness meditation offers a method of managing stress more healthily.

Meditation can improve health and quality of life

Recent studies have shown promising results on the effects of meditation in reducing blood pressure. There is also evidence that it can help people manage insomnia, depression, and anxiety.

Some studies show that meditation physically changes the brain and can help:

  •  Increase the ability to process information.
  •  Slows the cognitive effects of aging.
  •  Reduces inflammation.
  •  Immune system support.
  •  Reduce menopausal symptoms.
  •  Controlling the brain's response to pain.
  •  Improve sleep.

More research is needed, but it is clear that the effects of meditation on the body and brain are obvious!

Find the right method  for you

There are many types of meditation:

  •  Compassion (metta or loving-kindness)
  •  Insight (Vipassana)
  •  Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR)
  •  Transcendental meditation Vietnamese

Meditation can be as simple as sitting quietly and focusing on your breathing. When your mind wanders (and it will), gently bring it back to your breath.

If you need help figuring out where to start, look for online meditation courses, get recommendations from friends, or research different types of meditation that interest you.

Transcendental Meditation is a technique that allows your mind to focus inward, paying attention to other thoughts or feelings without letting them interfere. This is usually done while sitting with your eyes closed for 20 minutes, twice daily.

Mindfulness meditation can use an object of focus, such as ringing a bell, singing, touching beads, or looking at a picture. Prayer can also be a form of reconciliation.

Not all meditations are done sitting, with legs crossed and eyes closed. Forms of moving meditation include qigong, tai chi, and yoga

While meditation can help you manage stress, sleep well, and feel better, it should not replace lifestyle changes such as eating healthier, controlling your weight, and participating in physical activities. regular physical activity.

It also does not replace any medications or medical treatments your healthcare team may have prescribed for you.

Try different types of meditation to find what works for you and incorporate it regularly into your healthy lifestyle.
